Solar Austin Happy Hour
This month on November 18th, we're pleased to present our featured speaker, Brewster McCracken, Federal Grants Manager for Pecan Street Project Inc. Brewster will provide an overview of the Pecan Street Project's forthcoming demonstration project at the Mueller development.
Background:
Pecan Street has applied for federal stimulus funding to develop an open platform Energy Internet integrating locally-sited solar, smart grid electric and water systems, energy storage, electric vehicles and smart appliances on a platform of Austin Energy's next generation smart grid deployment. Brewster will describe how Pecan Street proposed to develop a plug and play standard to make clean energy work better than conventional electricity, improve air quality and create new opportunities for entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Bio:
Brewster McCracken is Federal Grants Manager for Pecan Street Project Inc. and the lead author of Pecan Street's federal stimulus application. Pecan Street is a public-private clean energy partnership to develop and implement the nation's most advanced Energy Internet. The project is developing the technologies and business models needed to make clean energy work as well as conventional electricity.
Brewster was elected to two terms on the Austin City Council, and he served as the Council's Mayor Pro Tem. Through his elected position, he also served as a board member for Austin Energy, the nation's fourth largest municipally owned utility.
In 2008, he led the creation of the Pecan Street Project. In 2007, he made Austin Energy the first utility in the nation to open its grid for emerging clean energy companies to beta test their technologies.
