January - North Texas Renewable Energy Group Meeting
When: Saturday, January 10, 2009
Time: 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM
Where: Valley Ranch Library, 401 Cimarron Trail, Irving
(Irving's Valley Ranch Library is North of I-635, South of Beltline Road, just East of Macarthur Blvd on Cimarron Trail)

Topic: Basics of Solar Electric System Design - Part 1 of 2
Presented by: Jim Duncan, North Texas Renewable Energy, Inc.

First of a two-part series discussing the basics designing and building a simple solar electric system.
Topics will include solar panels, wires and wire sizes, batteries, inverters, safety, and more. (See our Glossary for definitions.)
Jim's presentations will coincide with construction of our solar trailer, where we'll put what we learn in the meetings to actual hands-on use.

Jim has been installing solar energy systems in North Texas since 1994. He's recently become qualified to take
the NABCEP Certification test. NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification
is required by Austin Energy, Oncor, the State of California, and numerous others if an installed solar energy
system is to be eligible for state and/or other rebates and monetary incentives.

We'll have “before” photos so everyone can see the the trailer as it is now .. we begin>
transforming an ordinary enclosed cargo trailer into a mobile solar energy powerhouse able to provide substantial solar electricity
for a variety of upcoming events. (See our Annual Calendar for details.)

We'll be asking for volunteers to help with the construction of the solar electric system. Details to be announced at the meeting.

Irving's Valley Ranch Library is on the northeast corner of Macarthur Blvd on Cimarron Trail - between I-635 and Beltline Road.
Ample parking exists on the south and west sides of the building. Handicap parking and access is also available.
The meeting room is inside the Library main entrance, just to the left of the main doors after you've entered the Library.

There's a small coffee shop attached to the Library where we gather afterwards for continued informal conversations.

NOTE! The Library is *behind* the large buildings on the northeast corner of Macarthur Blvd and Cimarron Trail, and is not readily visible from the street.
Enter the parking lot from Macarthur or Cimarron and drive past the large buildings to the Library.
